Brindles & Blondes

Brindles & Blondes Soy Candles
help support the ASPCA

On the date of the writing of this article, I have ten, yes ten furry companions. Five were adopted from our local animal shelter and five who were abandoned and scared have found their way into my heart.

The line's name Brindles and Blondes originated from the color markings of five of the dogs - three brindles and two blondes.

I admit freely that I am absolutely crazy about all animals and I wanted to do something to help the lost and frightened. For each candle that is purchased from our Brindles & Blondes line, we will donate $5.00 to the ASPCA Founder's Society. The yearly minimum donation to the Founder's Society is $500.00.

Brindles & Blondes soy candles are adorned with the cutest personalized labels and they are accented with dog biscuits or rusty jingle bells. They are perfect for pet lovers!

Top billing goes to Holly. She is the oldest and definitely claims the throne as the "ruler", she's a wise 'ole girl. On Halloween night in 1999, we found a teeny - tiny calico. Since that fall night, life for her has been a piece-a-cake holly

This fella is a true gentleman…the last to eat and always the last in line guarding those in front.

Smokey was found abandoned when he was two - three weeks old. After weeks of bottle feeding, visits to the clinic and a few scary moments he emerged as an energetic kitten who grew into a very handsom cat

I was blessed when a beautiful German Shepherd showed up at my front door about five years ago. Her coat was matted and her ears were ravaged with fly bites. While trying not to fall head over heels over her, I did everything in my power to locate her owners. No one came forward. She was not spayed and the vet suspected she had recently delivered a litter of puppies. We're unsure of her age, but she is starting to show gray around her muzzle. Sophie is a bit goofy and she has the biggest heart even with her fierce sounding bark. She adores my husband, John and all of the cats. Sadly, Sophie was diagnosed with squamous cell carcinoma in October 2010. There are no options for surgery because the cancer is located in her throat. As of this posting, amazingly she is doing well. The vet saw her yesterday and referred to her as " Miracle Sophie". We know her time is limited so we try to make each day special.

Grief is the price we must pay for love, but someday, God willing,
we will meet up with her at the Rainbow Bridge

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind. They all run and play together, but the day comes when she suddenly stops and looks into the distance. Her bright eyes are intent. Her eager body quivers. Suddenly she begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, her legs carrying her faster and faster. You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart. Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together.... Author unknown...

jack

Jack was found wandering the streets of Cincinnati and he came into our home at the approximate age of 6 months old. Jack is a mixed-breed and he's a big boy weighing in at +100 pounds.

Even though he is the largest of our four legged friends, he is the most shy. Sadly, sometimes scared. He's very-very smart and it's hilarious to watch his rear end wiggle when he walks, and listen to him when he SNORES. He's just a great dog!

He resembles a furry dachshund with short little legs and a l-o-n-g body. We adopted Shorty from the shelter in the fall of 2007. He has more energy than all of the other animals combined and his liveliness insures that everyone gets their exercise.

For a little guy, he sometimes shows his "Oh . . . no you didn't" attitude with his four legged canine companions. He's an under the cover snuggler and I believe he likes to watch The Food Network

herman-lily

Lily and Herman are brother and sister tabbies that we adopted from the shelter.

Both are sweet as can be and you can always find them together. They work as a tag team when they're up to no good. (Hence their names . . . Lily & Herman MUNSTER)

I can't imagine having one without the other. They love water and you can usually find them in the kitchen sink

We adopted Bella along with her cell neighbor Alice (below). Bella is considered a pit mix. In Ohio, since her classification is deemed vicious a lot of rules come into play for ownership. Special homeowners policy, she must be muzzled if out in the public and if she escapes and is picked up by the dog warden, I must go to court in order to get her back. It's a lot yes, is she worth it? Absolutely!! Bella is the calmest, most well-behaved dog that I have ever owned. She hardly barks, loves the other cats and dogs, minimal shedding, that wonderful big chunky head and her. . .
you're finally home (knock you over) lean.

Her eyes are magnetic, especially when they fixate on something she wants . . . Kong!

The volunteers at the animal shelter were happy in a happy way to see Bella leave for her forever home. She was their good will ambassador for the introduction to the bull breed.

She definitely sold me!

alice

Alice was Bella's neighbor at the shelter. She was listed as a lab/retriever mix with an approximate age of 6mos. She is a large puppy, wild and crazy, can't you tell by her shelter mug shot? I cannot count the number of shoes and socks she has chewed up and how many stashes of stolen items ( TV remote, toilet paper roll holder, cat bed, diet coke can, dust pan, etc . . . ) I have found hidden away.

She loves water and will jump into the shower or bath if we are not careful. Oh yeah..she forgets to swallow when she is finished drinking. Water everywhere! She absolutely adores everyone. Jokingly, I tell her quite often that she is lucky she's cute! Wish me luck. It will be an adventure with Alice

Little Annie the boxer was left abandoned in the back yard of a foreclosed home. She was tied to a tree with a 3' rope. It's unclear how long she was alone, but she was severly dehydrated and very frightened when rescued. After recovery and spay, her introduction to the rest of the pack was effortless and she seems thrilled to have oodles of new friends. She shows happiness by performing her kidney bean dance. It's hysterical to watch her bend her body into the shape of a cheese doodle and walk at the same time. You gotta love boxers! Annie craves lots of attention and she has an odd habit of sitting on Alice which I find very amusing.

It's karma Alice!

Molly

New Arrival-3-24-12

I promise that I do not have a sign posted in the front of my house that says "drop your unwanted animals here!". The newest addition is baby Molly. Spring has arrived and yesterday, I was outside clearing away some of the winter's damage. I heard a faint meow coming from the road. In the ditch, I found a tiny kitten. The vet approximated her age at 2mos. Her bottom lip and chin are scuffed and bruised. Like all kittens, Molly is friendly, funny and already has found herself investigating everything.

My goal in life is to be as good of a person my dog already thinks I am. ~Author Unknown
